Wide open spaces

This weekend we were very excited to remove the scaffolding over the open living room to expose the tall ceiling and open design. It looks awesome! We had to finish the ceiling over that part first, and even install the ceiling fan even though we don't have anything else finished or electricity for that matter. That didn't stop me from temporarily wiring a plug onto the fan lead so we could see it run and even use it as a work light.

We also finished the last of the fiberglass insulation, which is a relief. It is a rather miserable experience to handle that stuff. We installed almost all the vapor barrier, some of the next layer of insulation, which is polyisocyanurate foam, and some of the 2x4 furring strips which go over that to create channels for wiring.

This photo shows various stages: Fiberglass with vapor barrier on the left, then the staple holes and seams taped in the bottom, and the foam insulation on the top. Note the black chimney support which shows the location of the wood stove.

Fully operational ceiling fan!

Looks more like it does now than it did before. So good so far as near as I can tell. Hope the frost doesn,t catch you with your windows opened like that, could cost a pile to heat. I would have chosen a different color of tyvek myself but to each there own on those color issues. Watch your step coming out of that loft the first step looks like a big one. Thanks to all those who are helping so much physically. I belive I can supply the most moral support if you should need any.

Hey guys, nice fan. Did you have to stand on each other's should to put it up? Or did you have a ladder. Just joking. Nice house. Nice job. Good excercsie in life. Enjoy. There will be stories to tell around the table. Don't forget'em.

Crap! Never thought about changing lights! No, but it will be difficult. It's either from a 12 foot ladder below, or leaning over from a short ladder on the loft. We're trying to find dimable compact fluorescent lights with a 10,000 hour life. They make them, but I've only seen them online.
