Windows

One of the main features of our house will be a steeply pitched high vaulted ceiling with a large wall of windows looking out over the Goldstream Valley. We're having a hard time deciding what kind of windows to put in this wall! Here are three basic ideas, and one similar real example from a house Patrick and I recently photographed. Which do you like best?

Two notes: the inside and outside pitch of the roof are different, which is evident with the angled windows when viewed from outside but hidden by the rounded windows. Also, more small windows will likely cost more than fewer large windows.

I like the 2nd and 3rd options best (with the larger bottom windows). Is there potential for a window seat....?

Barry and I liked the second one best, though I also liked the third one. Barry thought the round shape didn't go well with the A-frame (the third one).

I think we can put a window seat in there somewhere. I kind of like them all. The first one is like our old eagle river house, and I saw the third one in person and it looked quite nice. I need to get price quotes on these custom windows, plus see if they'll do them at all. These 30 square feet triple pane windows are mighty heavy.

Hmmm...I think it's between 1 and 2 for me. My first thought was that I liked the first aesthetically better but I like the idea of having larger windows as opposed to lots of little ones, less lines breaking up the surface. So 1 for looks, 2 for functionality.

First choice: middle, then bottom.

Yeah, I like the middle one the best. I actually kind of like the way it looks with the two different pitches. Though the round one is nice too. The first one wasn't bad, but my least favorite of the three (yeah, basicllay I'm saying you're wrong, Marcy). I kind of want to see a circle window at the very top, though. Says the guy who doesn't have to worry about paying for or building it. :)

I like number two the best. Nice and angular, but doesn't split up the view as much as number one.

Patrick (my boss) votes round, then middle option. One thing I should note - the round is truly round, not jagged like it looks, and the bottom windows come up to normal window height - like the height of the top of a door. It's a tall house.

I just don't like the circle one because it makes the house look squat. The angles of 1 and 2 elongate the house. Generally I like circles better then hard angles but not really in this case. Also, Lynn says it much better then I.
