Flooring

This weekend we did some fun stuff! Drywall and painting is done so finish work begins! We installed laminate flooring upstairs in the loft, bedroom, and two closets. It's Pergo "Colby Walnut." It goes fairly fast, but is actually hard physical work because clicking it together takes some muscle. We're sore. But, other than being dirty already, it looks awesome and makes the place start to look finished!

Then we did tiling downstairs, which is even harder. First we put down a primer and then final coat of RedGuard, which is a waterproofing and crack prevention membrane for the tile. It provides some flex as the heated floor expands and contracts at a different rate than the tile. Thanks to John, we went pretty fast after the critical first row. I spread mortar, Marcy set tiles, John mixed mortar, cleaned globules that got on the tile, selected tiles and handed them to Marcy, etc. It's a good 3 person job.

The place looks great! Really makes a difference when the floors go in. You all have done well. Keep up the good work. Move in day isn't far off now. Love Mom and Dad

Thanks for all your wonderful comments guys!

Carol - Can't wait for you to see it in person.

Sally - The walls are all white, the color on them is just light reflecting off the red stuff we had to put down on the floor, for underneath the tile. We probably won't go with color until next year. I think that's what you were referring to anyway.

Mom and Dad - It certainly does feel awesome to get the floors in. Starts making the place look finished. We were up late last night and got another significant portion of the tile done. By the way, Pergo Laminate installation is really fast but so much work! Flooring is hard work in general, I've been super sore for the last few days. I'm telling you a box of tile must weigh a million tons!

Oooooh. I notice tomorrow's schedule involves "toilet." That is a very important element to being move-in-ready. I hope it is a powerful flusher. Marcy, did we ever tell you about Andrew's traumatic experiences as a kid when he had flush/overflow issues? (Yes, that is what older sisters are for--to bring yup embarrassing stories).

Jess,

Funny you should say that because yes he did mention his constipational issues with me when we started dating. It was one of our bonding moments. You see I also plugged up a number of toilets in my younger days. Constipation is such a vicious cycle for children.

More pictures, please! I would particularly like to see the toilet. Were you able to "move-in" this weekend? Do you have the essentials: Heat, running water, refrigeration (or are you using nature's ice-box), electricity, and love?
